What Can You Do to Nourish Our Future?

“Almost 1 billion tons of food - 17% of all food available to consumers worldwide - is thrown away each year, resulting in the waste of precious resources, such as water, that were used to produce it.” - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

We at HopeCore came together for our annual local fundraiser with the goal of reducing malnutrition for the staggering number of children under the age of five in this region (20%). The theme: Nourish Their Future: Combating Child Malnutrition. Poor diets, limited access to quality healthcare, and a lack of caregiver knowledge about nutrition are contributing factors - leading to poor cognitive and physical development for those who are affected. The goal of this event was not only to raise funds to combat malnutrition but also to raise awareness of this problem.

And in the end, to reduce malnutrition by 15% within two years.

Kenya is one of a number of African countries experiencing a food crisis, with a severe reduction in rainfall, contributing to drought conditions. HopeCore continues working with communities to support nutritional education and practices, believing that access to healthy and nutritious food is a fundamental right for every child. HopeCore launched a Fruit for Life initiative in the spring, which is a step towards alleviating malnutrition. We aim to extend this project to all the public schools in Mwimbi and Muthambi sub-counties, and we can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on the children's health and well-being.

Through this initiative, HopeCore has planted 12 mango and 12 avocado seedling fruit trees at each of 25 pilot schools to improve the nutrition status of children. That’s 600 nutritious trees that will soon be ready to serve the community!

With grant funding, community financial support, and innovative solutions, we look forward to meeting - and then exceeding - our goal to reduce malnutrition. Join us today by donating in support of #WorldFoodDay.
