Micro Enterprise

38,549 Lives Impacted
$2.1 Million USD Loaned

HopeCore’s flagship program, the Micro Enterprise program, reduces poverty by supporting the creation of sustainable businesses and equipping Kenyans to manage their enterprises. Loans paired with business training and leadership training help dairy farmers, barbers, mechanics, and other small business owners access the capital they need to launch or expand their businesses and grow a sustainable income. Without this income, many business owners would not be able to provide proper nutrition and education for their families.

The program has supported and empowered 378 groups (4,214 individuals), which at an average of 6 dependents per family means the program has impacted approximately 38,549 beneficiaries in our community. The program has loaned over $2.1 million to community members in Tharaka Nithi and has a repayment rate of over 100.1%.

Street Business School

1760 Entrepreneurs Empowered

Street Business School (SBS) is an education-only program that provides practical hands-on training and support. It is designed to ignite entrepreneurial potential in an individual. SBS is a partnership between HopeCore and the Uganda-based Street Business School.

HopeCore staff traveled to Uganda in 2019 to be trained as SBS Coaches. In 2023, the graduation of 480 SBS students showed a remarkable 108% increase in income, with 54% of them initiating businesses. Please read more about one of the entrepreneurs’ successes here

HopeCore plans to train 900 entrepreneurs between 2021 and 2024.

Capacity Building

5,270 Farmers Empowered

The first in what will hopefully become a series of non-financial community development projects, the Global Families Welfare Group comprises 133 members working on agricultural projects. While HopeCore is not providing loans to these individuals, the team aims to support the group with mentorship and technical support. This added support will lead to increased income and empowerment for the group.

Income Generation Project

12 Youth Trained

In August 2014, HopeCore launched the Income Generation Project (IGP). This project provides Kenyans with computer training. Then, the trained individuals are given the opportunity to apply for real data entry jobs supported by donors in the United States.

This project helps the organization be more sustainable while providing community members with valuable job training and experience.  The project has trained 12 youth. Two alumni are now working in the Administration and Finance departments of HopeCore. One alumnus now works for Tharaka Nithi County.
