VHI Star: Kinoti

Kinoti began his business by baking cakes to sell in his neighborhood. Before the business training at VHI, he didn’t know how much income they were making, but he knew he was making a profit. Within a month after the VHI training on business planning and bookkeeping, he was making a monthly profit of $180. Even before receiving the loan, VHI had helped him improve his business and increase his income.

Kinoti’s business plan for the loan was to buy an additional motorbike for distributing the cakes. When our group coordinator, Godfrey Munene, went to check the viability of the plan, they realized the extra motorbike would not actually improve the business, because Kinoti was not producing enough product to distribute to a larger geographical area. After this conversation, Kinoti decided to change his business plan to buy another oven, which eventually led to greater production and greater profit. With the profits from cakes produced from two ovens, Kinoti has plans to buy an additional motorbike to expand the distribution of his products.
