Winning on the Field and in Life

HopeCore, committed to holistic community development, empowers youth by addressing health concerns, nurturing entrepreneurship, and promoting personal growth. Kiagengaru FC (Urafiki Stars), a youth football team formed in 2015, is a prime example of this mission.

Youth empowerment

Kiagengaru FC was founded to develop skills, ignite passion, and nurture talent in the community's youth. HopeCore's Micro Enterprise team recognized their potential and introduced a Street Business Training program to combat youth unemployment.

The three-month program included modules on getting out of the comfort zone, identifying business opportunities, finding capital and starting small, record keeping and bookkeeping, market research, business planning, growing customer base, and money management.

Out of the total 40 members, the program empowered 20 young football players. These participants wasted no time and started ventures like poultry and horticulture farming, as well as a successful photography business with a 75% success rate. These endeavors not only provided income but also kept them engaged, steering them away from poor life choices.

Youth playing football

Kiagengaru FC's success extended beyond entrepreneurship. They excelled in local football leagues, earning trophies, uniforms, balls, and cash prizes. Their journey demonstrates the transformative potential of sports and entrepreneurship. One of the members, Mwandiki, says, "Through HopeCore's support, we learned that the field and the business world aren't that different – both require dedication, teamwork, and a relentless pursuit of success."

HopeCore takes pride in supporting initiatives that inspire youth and drive positive change, shaping a brighter future for the community.
