The HopeCore Difference

There are thousands of microfinance programs working all over the world. They’re building communities, strengthening families, and empowering women and men with the simple act of loaning a small amount of money. We are inspired by these organizations and look to many of them as models of what Hopecore can achieve. But we believe that Hopecore offers something different than most other microfinance programs out there. Not only does our health program address the intersecting issues of poverty and disease, but our business training, mentoring, and support ensure that loan recipients have the confidence, knowledge, and skills to make the most of their loans. Our Microfinance Coordinator, Godfrey Munene, and Business Advisor/Peace Corp Volunteer, Carlo Abuyan, spend the majority of their time attending loan group meetings and visiting businesses, supporting our members with business advice, financial record keeping, and connecting them to other resources. Sure, we do this to make sure they pay back their loan to us, but we also do this because our goal is not just to provide loans, but to lift families out of poverty. Loans are just the strategy we have chosen to help people achieve a sustainable income. This becomes clear when you take a visit to the villages with Hopecore staff. You’ll witness the strong relationships between the Microfinance Coordinator and the loan recipients and the successful businesses they have built. We are happy to have a perfect loan repayment rate, but we’re even happier to have a community that is growing economically stronger every year.
