From Struggles to Stability: Lawrence Mutuma's Transformational Journey with HopeCore

Lawrence Mutuma, a 38-year-old from Kirumi sub-location in Tharaka Nithi County, faced immense challenges as the sole provider for his family. As a husband and father of two, he felt the weight of responsibility and struggled to make ends meet with limited resources. However, his life has transformed thanks to HopeCore’s Micro Enterprise program, which empowered him financially.

Lawrence's journey with HopeCore began in 2022 when he joined the Witeithie Self-Help Group and accessed a share of the group's soft loan. Combining these funds with his savings, he bought a heifer, adding to the single cow he already owned. After six months of repaying the loan, he successfully secured his first cycle loan, as an individual, of Ksh. 60,000 ($465). He used the loan to buy a dairy cow that produced 14 liters of milk daily, resulting in a monthly income of Ksh. 21,000 ($163).

Through hard work and commitment, Lawrence paid off the loan and, this year, received Ksh. 100,000 to further enhance his dairy farming. He invested in a heifer, currently in calf, and upgraded to a standard zero-grazing system. His herd has now grown to four cows and two heifers, increasing his milk production to 55 liters per day and earning him Ksh. 82,500 ($640) monthly.

Beyond providing financial support, HopeCore has equipped Lawrence with essential knowledge in financial management, empowering him to save. As a result, he has met their basic needs, renovated their house, and installed electricity, significantly improving his family’s living standards.

Expressing his gratitude, Lawrence shares his future plan, saying, “HopeCore is my mentor, and I thank them for changing my life. With their continued support, I look forward to diversifying into horticulture, adding value to my dairy farming, and achieving financial stability. I truly believe it’s possible with HopeCore.”

HopeCore remains committed to its mission of transforming lives, and Lawrence's story exemplifies this commitment. His journey showcases how the Micro-Enterprise program is creating a lasting impact not only on individuals but also on their communities by inspiring others to pursue their paths to financial stability.
